As a water damage restoration company, we see plenty of wet and flooded basements around Springfield. The Ozarks sit on porous limestone, so groundwater moves easily and can rise against foundation walls after heavy rain. Spring storms drop a lot of water in a short time, and older foundations develop cracks over the years. If your basement takes on water, cleaning it up is only half the job. Waterproofing addresses where the water is coming from, so you are not repeating the same cleanup after the next storm. ABC Environmental Contracting Services offers basement waterproofing alongside our water damage cleanup, so we can dry out your basement and help keep it dry.
Basement water usually comes from a handful of sources. Rain that collects next to the house soaks into the soil and pushes through foundation cracks and the joint where the floor meets the walls. Clogged gutters and short downspouts dump roof water right at the foundation. Sump pumps fail during storms, especially if the power goes out. And plumbing leaks, sewer backups and failed water heaters can flood a basement from the inside. Pinpointing the source is the first step toward the right fix.

Every wet basement is a little different. The right solution depends on where water is getting in, how much there is and how your lot drains. After inspecting your basement, we recommend the approach that fits, which may combine several of the options below.
A sump pump collects water that gathers under and around the basement floor and pumps it out and away before it can flood the space. For many Springfield basements, a properly sized sump pump is the most important line of defense. Things to think about:

An interior French drain, or perimeter drain, runs along the inside edge of the basement floor to catch water seeping through the walls or up through the floor joint. The water is channeled to a sump pump and pumped out, relieving the pressure that pushes water inside, without major digging outside the house. It is a common fix for older Springfield homes where water comes in along the base of the walls after heavy rain.
Some of the most effective fixes are the simplest. Downspout extensions carry roof water away from the foundation instead of dumping it beside the house, and drain grates catch surface water and send it where it can drain safely. These exterior improvements cut down how much water reaches your foundation to begin with.
